Potato chipper

Ever since I was a child, I’ve enjoyed searching for old stuff in my grandma’s storage room. I’ve been always fascinated by the things she’d kept in there – be it great-grandma’s tea cups or clothes, embroidery, books, and so on. In that same storage one could also spot old and not so old kitchen utensils. I’d usually ask my grandma to lend me a thing or to, for taking photos of it or simply have it for a while in my home in Ljubljana. And so I end up bringing more stuff each time I return from my hometown. A week ago I returned with this device: potato slicer/chipper/cutter, you name it. It belongs to my mother (who hasn’t used it at all for the last decade and a half) and apparently it’s soon going to celebrate its 3rd decade. Well, it certainly doesn’t look bad for its age!

I have to confess, I don’t ever fry potatoes. At least not the way you’d normally fry potatoes. Why so? Not only that I don’t like fried food (it makes my stomach upset plus it’s not healthy), but also since discovering a much healthier way of preparing “French fries”, I simply can’t imagine eating them other way. However, we tend to eat more rice than potatoes in our household, although from time to time it feels nice to treat ourselves with a plate of golden brown “earth apples”, always accompanied by plenty of veggies and/or a bowl of salad.
