Fake chocolate truffles

A year ago I posted about chocolate truffles I made for the first time. It was something new for me, given that here we don’t make chocolate things for Christmas. This is a land of potica but since I’m not such a big fan of it, I don’t think I will be making one this year either. (Although I’m planning on making it once in near future, to show you how it is made.)
Today I’ve been baking polvorones, orange-cinnamon and cocoa-rum scented ones. They came out very nice. However, I also made some truffles, but this time not the real ones – I found a promising recipe in a local newspaper, adapted it to my liking and I think they make a great alternative to the traditional, rather heavy chocolate truffles like we know them. Let’s call them “fake truffles”.

You need:
80g chocolate (I used 60% cocoa)
50g butter
100g ground almonds
150g ground plain (or digestive) cookies
100g finely chopped prunes
2tsp (or more if needed) freshly squeezed orange juice
grated peel of one non-treated orange
a splash of Cointreau (optional)
For rolling: cocoa powder/ground cinnamon/coconut
Melt the chocolate together with butter over bain marie. Let cool, then stir in the rest of ingredients. Cover and let rest in the fridge overnight, then shape the “truffles” and roll them in either cocoa powder, ground cinnamon or coconut. Place in the praline paper cups and keep in the fridge. They make a wonderful home made present!
