Otocec

When tourists come to visit Slovenia, they usually head for the capital, Ljubljana, then Bled, the perl of Gorenjska, and maybe towards our ten meters of coast – but that’s more or less it. However, there are yet more places worth a visit in this country, for example this little town we’ve visited a couple of weeks ago: Otočec.

The Otočec Castle

The castle, surrounded with water, is the main attraction of the town of Otočec. Mentioned first all the way back in 1252, the Otočec castle stands on an islet on Krka river. It has changed owners a lot of times throughout history, and nowadays it is a cultural monument. There is a five star hotel in the castle now, being quite popular for its medieval wedding celebrations and other feasts. The castle surroundings are perfect for picnics, sport activities and  keen photographers.

On both sides of the the Krka riverside you might get greeted by some of its featherly inhabitants – swans. Well, the greeting we received while approaching them too much was more alike a threatening hiss… nothing evil, they were just protecting their offspring, as we found out soon after.

What I liked especially were the colours – all shades of green you can imagine. Just by observing the nature around you your eyes get relaxed.
I’m leaving you with some more idyllic photos. You can also check out the beautiful photos of Susana who recently visited another nice town close to the Krka river, Kostanjevica na Krki.
