Last minute gifts

When talking about gifts, I tend to lean more on the side of those people who prefer to give away a (hand/home)made present. I dislike wandering around shops in search for something that I don’t really know if it’s going to serve to anyone. Instead, I prefer seeing the surprised and happy faces of those who receive the presents I make; it truly shows me I’m doing it right. It doesn’t happen often that I get something homemade, therefore I enjoy so much to do it myself for others.

In case you would like to make a gift for the New Year’s Eve, and still have no idea about it, here there are some ideas for you that we learned this year:

- Make your own tisane. Everyone likes to drink something hot in winter and with little imagination, you can present a nice aromatic herb mixture which will light up anyone’s day.
- Bake some cookies or make chocolate truffles. It’s not so difficult! Who wouldn’t like some homemade snack to accompany his/her tea or coffee?
- Make your own marmalade. It won’t take you much time and it allows a lot of creativity. Combine exotic fruit with cane sugar and Cuban rum or simply make it like the new one I did today.

For a jar (250ml) you need 3 oranges, 1 lemon and some blond cane sugar. For a tenderly bitter touch use also some orange and lemon peel, if you like it.

Ingredients for the orange marmalade
Let the fruit and peel macerate in sugar and lemon juice for some hours. Then boil it on moderate heat for half
an hour or so, adding some more sugar/lemon juice according to your taste, then transfer to the heated jar.
(more about cooking marmalade you can read here).

So, why not make a special present this end of year and surprise your beloved ones with some tasty homemades?

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE!
