Driving in Slovenia

Slovenia has always had a pretty high percentage of car accidents per year and this still hasn't changed. As a matter of fact, it is increasing.
However, the situation this year is just awful, actually I can hardly believe the Slovene drivers have become arrogant to such point. I can clearly see the difference in a period of 6 months that I spent abroad – being back on the road here made me shocked, namely I've been put in danger every time I got into the car.
The situtation hasn't changed only on highways, where you can see the coolest sons-of-daddy on top of the latest-fashion car brands overtaking you at 180 km/h or more; even the traffic on local roads isn't a safe way anymore when the cars coming in the opposite direction find it so fun, or don't have another remedy, to drive in the middle of road and not in their lane.
I loved to drive. Unfortunatelly I cannot say that anymore. There's always some idiot that crosses my way and takes away my will to get back on the road again. So I take the bus whenever possible. Or even better – I go walking. Which doesn't make me feel too safe, either -  since nobody cares about pedestrians anymore…
Not to mention the parking problem. Our capital is not prepared for such a mass of cars. The roads are narrow, one lane for one direction in most cases, which disables even the city buses to be on time. There are days when some buses take more than 45 minutes to show up (when the stated freq is 12 mins).
My God, I can not imagine living in a BIG city like Mexico or New York. Because sometimes I really do feel like as if I was living in a town like that. Slovenia is the size of a small Spanish province, but with the traffic and accident rate of Madrid in peak hour, and the kamikaze driving-style of Portugal/Italy. And Ljubljana sometimes seems to have twice as much cars than people.
Also, the air is not as nice as before. I miss that Alpine country that once used to be so peaceful and clean but is now flooded by 4-wheel-gas-emitting monsters, crashing every day and causing deaths of hundreds of Slovenes each year.
People cannot calm down and take a pair more minutes to arrive ?
